Fall 2026 admissions season is here, and if you’re a fresh FSc/ICS graduate or a parent trying to keep track of five different portals the deadlines, entry tests, and merit formulas can get overwhelming fast. Here’s what’s actually happening across Pakistan’s top universities this cycle.
The Big Picture
Most public universities in Pakistan NUST, UET, University of Punjab, COMSATS admit only once a year, in the Fall cycle. That makes this window the one that matters most for the vast majority of applicants. The general season runs July through September 2026, with merit lists typically announced in August–September and classes starting in September or October.
University-by-University Snapshot
NUST One of Pakistan’s strongest options for Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Data Science, and Business. Admission runs exclusively through the NUST Entry Test (NET) 200 MCQs in 180 minutes, no negative marking. NET registration opens earlier than most (May–June), with computer-based tests running from late June and paper-based tests in Karachi (July 19–21) and Gilgit (July 21–22). Fees run approximately PKR 190,000–260,000 per semester. Merit here is highly competitive.
FAST-NUCES Pakistan’s most prominent Computer Science-focused university, spread across six campuses (Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Chiniot-Faisalabad, Multan). Admission uses a unified NU Entry Test with a common merit formula: 50% test score, 40% HSSC (intermediate) marks, 10% SSC (matric) marks. Around 35,000 students compete annually for roughly 6,000 seats genuinely one of the toughest private-sector admissions in the country. Fall classes start August 19, 2026.
COMSATS University Islamabad A strong, comparatively more affordable choice across seven campuses, popular for Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, and Business. Most programs require a valid NTS-NAT score (valid for up to two years). If your FSc results haven’t been officially announced yet, COMSATS accepts a “Hope Certificate” from your college confirming an expected 60%+ score. Fees run approximately PKR 90,000–160,000 per semester noticeably lower than NUST.
LUMS Pakistan’s top-ranked private university for Business and increasingly competitive across other disciplines. The undergraduate online application deadline for 2026 is April 14, with admission decisions running through April–July and orientation in mid-August. If you’re targeting LUMS for a later cycle, mark this deadline early it closes well before most public university cycles even open.
QAU (Quaid-i-Azam University) Best known for Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Economics, and research-heavy programs. Most undergraduate admissions here are merit-based and may not require a separate entry test for several programs, which makes it a solid option if you’d rather avoid another exam.
IUB and BZU Typically open applications in July, using the NTS-NAT test, with merit lists announced August–September. HEC’s minimum admission requirement is 45–50%, but realistic competitive merit for these “W3 category” universities tends to be 60%+, making them a strong target if your FSc percentage falls in that range.
Understanding the Merit Categories
HEC ranks Pakistani universities into categories (W1 through W4 roughly, top to lower tier). As a rough guide for 2026:
- W1/W2 universities (NUST, FAST, UET) realistic competitive merit is 70–85%+.
- W3 universities (IUB, BZU, COMSATS) realistic competitive merit is 60%+.
If your FSc percentage sits in the 60–70% range, IUB, BZU, and similar W3-category universities paired with a strong NTS-NAT score are usually a more realistic primary target than NUST or FAST.
Practical Advice Before You Apply
- Take more than one entry test if you’re serious about multiple universities. NTS-NAT and NUST NET serve different institutions taking both keeps more doors open.
- Don’t wait on results to apply. If your board hasn’t released FSc Part-II results yet, check whether your target university accepts a Hope Certificate rather than missing the deadline entirely.
- Budget for the full degree, not just the first semester. A program that looks affordable per semester can still add up significantly over four years once hostel, transport, and miscellaneous fees are factored in.
- Double-check every date on the official portal. Entry test schedules and deadlines shift year to year treat any date here as a starting reference, not a final answer, and confirm directly on the university’s admissions page before you plan around it.
Fall 2026 admissions are competitive, but they’re also predictable if you plan around the right entry test and realistic merit expectations rather than chasing the most prestigious name on the list regardless of fit.
